Tyree is the former chair of Reed Smith’s global Labor & Employment Group and is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He also serves as a co-lead of the Reed Smith’s global Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) practice. He is a trial lawyer with more than 30 years of experience litigating complex commercial disputes alleging civil rights violations in the consumer finance, employment, housing, and information management sectors. His national practice spans an array of industries including transportation, financial services, health care and defense contracting.
Tyree navigates clients through a labyrinth of equitable rights-related disputes, including predatory and fair lending issues, sexual and racial harassment matters as well as discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour and equal pay issues. He has successfully defended clients against alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the False Claims Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and their state law counterparts, particularly in California. He also has successfully defended employers in employment class actions and related litigation brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Tyree also negotiates executive compensation agreements and conducts due diligence on labor and employment issues connected with corporate transactions.
With inequity, actual or perceived, presenting an existential threat to businesses in all sectors today, Tyree has been counseling clients on ESG issues and is part of Reed Smith’s global Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practice. This multi-disciplinary practice guides clients through the challenges posed by climate change, racial justice and other issues of inequity, and the impact of a global pandemic. Tyree particularly focuses on the effective management of human capital; diversity, equity and inclusion; the development of credible metrics to measure impact in this area and sustainability reporting.
Active in his community, Tyree has served as the Board Chair of the San Francisco Suicide Prevention Society, Wiley Manuel Law Foundation and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Georgetown University; serving on its Audit Committee and as Chair of its Law Center Affairs Committee. Tyree also is a member of the Board of Trustees of Bowdoin College and is a member of Reed Smith’s Audit and Innovation and Strategy Committees.
